Report on the Mass of Thanksgiving and Altar Dedication
Last updated date
After many months of construction, the Church renovations are finally complete, and a Mass of Thanksgiving and Altar Dedication marking the completion took place on the Feast of Our Lady Immaculate on Monday, December 8th, 2014.
The Church was filled to capacity with parishioners as well as many dignified guests, including His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins, Most Reverend Bishops Douglas Crosby, Anthony Tonnos, and Matthew Ustrzycki. Also attending were former Parish Pastor Reverend Ted Hughes, Sister Elaine Weinstein, as well as many other Priests and Deacons from the diocese, and members of the Knights of Columbus.
There were many parishioners that contributed to the celebration of the Mass but in particular the beautiful music and voices that filled the church really made it a truly special evening. During the Mass, Bishop Crosby announced that the church had been named Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate by His Holiness Pope Francis. A wonderful reception, organized by the Celebration Committee and the CWL, was held following the Mass in the newly renovated Parish Hall and was enjoyed by all.
A special thanks to Father Noon, Rector of the Basilica, for his tremendous vision, leadership, and dedication throughout the entire renovation project. Also thanks to Father Noon and the entire Celebration Committee who planned each and every detail of the Dedication Mass and celebrations. It was such a wonderful way to give thanks and celebrate this truly amazing place of worship that we now call - Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate.
A celebration of the new status as Basilica will take place in the near year. For more pictures of the event, please follow this link to the Diocese of Hamilton website.
