Sunday, April 9, 2017 - 4:30pm

I wish to invite and encourage your attendance at our Holy Week liturgies. Holy Week is the most solemn time of our liturgical year in which we celebrate the completion of Jesus’ mission on earth, culminating in His sorrowful Passion and Death and His glorious Resurrection on Easter Sunday. It is a time of reflection on the marvels of God’s love for us.

We begin today “The Sunday of The Lord’s Passion” receiving Palm branches and reflecting on the Passion according to St. Matthew.

On Monday evening at 7:00p.m. in the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King Hamilton, the bishops and priests of the Diocese celebrate the Mass of Chrism recommitting themselves to the church and the people of God. Bishop Crosby will bless the oils to be used in the celebration of the sacraments in each parish of the diocese.

On HOLY THURSDAY we celebrate only one Mass at 7:00p.m. commemorating the institution of the sacraments of Priesthood and Eucharist. The Mass will include the washing  of the feet and Communion offered under both species; a procession with the Blessed Sacrament and Adoration until 10p.m.

On GOOD FRIDAY we commemorate the Passion and Death of Jesus. At 12noon there will be a Children’s Liturgy without Holy Communion. At 3:00p.m. we have the Solemn Proclamation of the Passion; Veneration of the Cross; Holy Communion. At 7p.m. we will have the Stations of the Cross and a Sermon.

On HOLY SATURDAY the great Easter Vigil is celebrated at 8:00p.m. We celebrate the history of our salvation through the lighting of the Paschal Candle; the great Easter proclamation “The Exultet” and the Word of God. We will welcome new adult converts into our Catholic faith family through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Communion will be offered under both species.
