This Lenten season is a time to come closer to God through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. As people of faith we are called to open our hearts and be in solidarity with our sisters and brothers in the Global South as we strive to build a better world. For the past 50 years Canadian Catholics have faithfully responded to the cry of the poor by giving generously to Development and Peace Caritas Canada. We have walked side by side with the women, men and children who experience the injustice of poverty, no matter where they may be. In this Jubilee year our Lenten theme “Women At The Heart of Change” echoes the message of Pope Francis, “that in all countries of the world, women must be honoured, respected and valued for their essential contribution to society.” Let us take full advantage of the sacred moment that is Lent, to create a space for dialogue that will allow us to contemplate a future of justice and dignity for all.
